Like a fine Wine

There has been a TON of discussion on Quarterback Brett Favre over the last few years. With good reason, but so much has been on how tired everyone is of the way he goes about his UN-retirement. People who know me or know my articles on http://www.pigskinaddiction.com know my stance on Favre…I’m one of his biggest supporters, I think only John Madden is a bigger supporter than I am. I’ve defended him; I’ve debated with many of our Trough members (our message board) to the point of frustration.

Monday night the Packers traveled to Minnesota, normally this wouldn’t be a big deal…they play twice a year every NFL season but this was different. #4 is in Purple even after Ted Thompson when to great pains to make sure he NEVER had to face the guy he said couldn’t play anymore.

Brett’s career has been well storied, he’s a living legend in football…the guy can flat out play the game and the best part is he loves the game and you can see that every single time he throws a touchdown pass or runs 50 yards down the field to make a block. Brett also loves to win…so when he was forced out of Green Bay, he was determined to make Ted Thompson pay for that mistake.

There was sooooooooooooooooooooo much hype leading up to the Monday night game that Favre haters had to be throwing up lunch all week long. You couldn’t turn to a sports channel without seeing a story on the up coming Monday night game. Well let me tell you the hype was well deserved! Clearly Favre answered all questions about his arm on Monday night, clearly Ted Thompson was right not to want to play against Favre and clearly everyone who doubted the guy still had it was proven wrong! Dead wrong!

Nearly 300 yards and three touchdown passes later (with NO interceptions I might add) and with very little support from the best running back in the game (Adrian Peterson) Brett put the Vikings on his shoulders and carried them to a dominating victory over his former team the Green Bay Packers. I might add that the Vikings pass rush is just scary.

It was so much fun to watch Brett play, pure joy! I felt like I felt the first year I watched Barry Sanders play for the Lions, just amazed at the ability…amazed someone could love what he does that much. He’s 40 years old guys!! If you can sit back and appreciate what Brett did, what he’s doing…then your issues with Brett Favre is way deeper than anyone could possibly fix for you. Even the doubters on our message board HAD to give it up for what Favre did…not only against the Packers but the drive and the throw the week before to beat the Niners. The guy still has cannon and he understands the game and he loves to play.

I’m not loyal to any one team…as a kid I lived in Michigan and cheered for the Lions but since getting into fantasy football I really just enjoy player’s more than specific teams. If you make me choose sides I’ll still take the poor Lions but don’t tell anyone until they win two games in a row. But players like Favre, Sanders, Elway, Walter Payton…I just really appreciate the way they play/played with passion and for love of the game.

Thanks, Brett. Thanks for coming back….thanks for beating the crap out of the Packers and thanks for being you. Truly amazing and a first ballot Hall of Famer. Play as long as you like and don’t listen to the critics or the haters, they just don’t have a clue!
